THE STORY:

The Hot Mikado

KATS and MODDRAM are proud to present the S.A. premiers of this hot Gilbert and Sullivan hit adaptation.  Never before seen on SA shores, we bring you this toe-tapping, foot-stomping fest of jazz, blues and rock.

The original Gilbert and Sullivan operetta "The Mikado", widely considered to be their best and funniest, has been given a face-lift and an update.  Brought kicking and screaming into the 20th century, and set in the 1940's, we meet Nanki-Poo, a wandering minstrel, seeking the love of his life, Yum-Yum.  But she's engaged to marry the Lord High Executioner, Ko-Ko.  What is Nanki-Poo to do?  He is also being romantically pursued by Katisha, daughter-in-law elect of the Mikado (ruler of Japan).  In a pickle indeed, Nanki-Poo must find a way to escape the affections of Katisha, and get Yum-Yum from Ko-Ko without losing his HEAD!  In the end, all turns out well and it's a wedding fest in the town of Titipu.

Best Little Brothel Off Broadway

The old Galleon Theatre off Broadway is in ruins and has been for the last few years.  A handful of dedicated thespians remain, as cleaning staff and caretakers, waiting for the new owner who is set to buy the old run down theatre.  As with each prospective owner before this one, Carlton and Ruby try their best to frighten him off with their wierd antics in the hope that they can somehow scrape together the money to buy the theatre for themselves and restore it to it's former glory.

Little do they know that their antics won't be working so well this time, and that their beloved theatre is set to be transformed into an exotic dance joint.

Save to say, with a little help from a friendly theatre ghost, all turns out well in the end.
